Community Aspects

The hamlet of Chilcote, where we are based is a community minded hamlet and we are always hosting fund-raising activities with the villagers including Barn Dances, Charity Auctions and Bonfire nights and many, many more. John is also Chairman of the Village Parish Council Committee Meeting, which meets during the year and we are all involved with the "Best kept village competitions".

We also try to help with donations of fruit when asked by fund-raising organisations e.g. the local Newlands hospice at Netherseal and the Sue Ryder home at Staunton Harold.

From a conventional Small holding to a demanding Soft Fruit enterprise has taken a number of years and plenty of sweat & tears. Manor Farm was a very basic small holding when John first purchased the farm house and land, he has had to strive for many years to the situation he and his son's have today.

As a family concern we were dealt a cruel blow with the death of Noreen, John's wife at the end of March 1998 but it feels right to work harder and motivate ourselves more, in her memory.
