Busby Partners Limited

Manor Farm, Church Lane, Chilcote,

Swadlincote, Derbyshire   DE12 8DL. England.

Dear Student - Welcome to our farm - please read all this information and print any pages to take with you on your journey to England - have a great time planning and starting your adventure - we look forward to meeting you in 2009.

We have received information that a Workcard has been issued in the name of our farm, please do NOT arrive before the “to date” on your workcard. We plant, grow, pick and pack strawberries here from March to November.  Moreover, you will be working, if you come as a casual employee and for reasons of crop and weather, no assurances can be given about the length and continuity of employment.

Please ensure that your exit and transit (Schengan) visa’s for your return journey home (if you are travelling across the European countries) will be valid for the whole of your stay in England and your return journey.  In the past students have found they needed to extend their Schengan visa from London to stay a little longer so try to get your visa’s dated November, before you leave home.

The NFU through the HOPS agency are offering you their “Travel Insurance” this is a very good insurance to have we fully ADVISE that you take this Insurance, as part of our daily casual staff you must be properly insured to work at Manor Farm –

proof / paperwork will be requested on arrival.

Further information:

Wages:  The Agricultural Minimum wage rate of pay for casual employees will be paid per hour worked, most work will be done on piece rate work system, based on your own individual production, the daily rate will be set and will included daily allocation of holiday pay.

We do not pay for time taken with meal breaks, so we advise you to bring a lunchbox and flask to consume food in the set aside areas of the field.

We recommend that you bring approximately £30.00 in sterling to cater for immediate needs, upon your arrival in England.

so that you can prepare your own meals including sandwiches etc. and drinks to be used when working.

There will be all the necessary equipment and a dining area.

Toilets and showers are also provided in each caravan, laundry facilities are in a separate area.

You will be expected to clean the communal facilities and your own living area, equipment is available and inspections will be made regularly.

A charge will be made for the accommodation, facility charge (daily rate); this includes the first bottle of gas for free.  After that you will pay per caravan for any other bottles you use.

TRAVELLING TO ENGLAND AND MANOR FARM.

However you decided to arrive in England by coach, plane or by the sea, please follow ONE of the two best options:-

Option one:  TRAVEL TO BURTON UPON TRENT or TAMWORTH . (this is the vest best option for us, when you need to be collected).

Most students in the past arrive in London, and find Victoria coach station, there is a daily coach from Victoria to Burton Upon Trent or Tamworth

You must check the times of departure from the ticket office.

We can then easily collect you. Please telephone the farm or one of the mobile numbers before you get on the coach in London,

so that we can be there to meet you in Burton or Tamworth.

Option two:  TRAVEL TO TAMWORTH TRAIN STATION.  Students can also travel direct or via Birmingham International to TAMWORTH at various times on display at London Euston train station.

Please telephone us before you depart the station and we will collect you from TAMWORTH.

Please DO NOT get trains to Birmingham without a connection to Tamworth

Check each timetable and do not be afraid to ask at the ticket counter or a train station person!

There is also a bus from Victoria Coach Station to Tamworth Bus Station.

There is only one service a day leaving London 1730hrs and arriving Tamworth 2040hrs.

Once again please telephone us before leaving London.

Your adventure and journey:

We would like to know when you are likely to be arriving in England.  Please contact us and let us know, we can’t organise to pick you up if we don’t know you are here!

If you know that you cannot come or have been given an alternative farm and another workcard then PLEASE,

PLEASE return unused workcards to us or to HOPS (GB).

You can contact us by a letter (address as above), telephone (01827 373 282), fax (01827 373 561), Internet web page (www.busbyandpartners.co.uk),

or Internet E-mail (info@jwbusby.co.uk)

We hope that it will be an adventure and you will enjoy all that England has to offer during your stay, the experience is one for you to remember for your lifetime and we intend to make it a pleasurable one.
